Process Communication (PCM)®

Process Communication Model (PCM)® training is about one specific thing: why people communicate the way they do, and how that shifts, predictably, the moment they're under stress. Understanding that shift is often the difference between a conversation that lands and one that makes things worse.

Who this is for

A leader who keeps having conversations that go sideways with a particular person, or a team where the same miscommunication keeps recurring under deadline pressure. If you've ever said something the way you meant it and watched it land completely wrong, this is aimed at that gap.

What's included

  • PCM® training in how communication style shifts under stress, and how to recognize it in real time
  • Practical language for reaching someone who's already stressed, rather than escalating with them
  • Application to your team's actual working relationships, not abstract personality categories

How to get started

Tell me about the communication pattern that keeps repeating. That's the starting point, not a generic overview of the model.

Frequently asked questions

What is Process Communication Model (PCM)®?

It's a communication framework, originally developed with NASA for astronaut selection, that maps how different people prefer to communicate, and how that shifts predictably when someone is under stress. It gives you a way to recognize what's happening in a hard conversation and adjust how you're showing up.

How is this different from a personality test?

A personality test tells you a type and stops there. PCM is built around what changes under pressure, the specific, predictable way someone's communication shifts when they're stressed, and what actually reaches them in that moment.

Is PCM scientifically proven?

I'll be straight with you. The peer-reviewed research behind PCM is thinner than better-studied frameworks in psychology. What it offers is a genuinely useful practitioner language for real interpersonal patterns. I use it because it works in the room, and I hold it loosely rather than treating it as settled science.
